Today, Samsung announced its first 10.1-inch Solar charging, Eco-friendly NC 215 (Sens) netbook in South Korea.

Samsung’s environmentally friendly solar rechargeable 10.1-inch (mini-notebook), the Samsung NC 215 has a long battery life thanks to its solar panel lid. The panel converts every two hours of sunlight (about 87,000 LUX) into an extra hour of productivity. In addition, the netbook’s battery can hold up-to 14 hours between charges. And with Samsung’s battery technology for mobile PCs (Power Plus) the battery is able to be charged for up to 1,000 times.

The Samsung NC215 has a 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) WSVGA backlit display powered by a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N570 and Intel GMA 3150 Graphics. Also, 1GB of RAM, 250GB HDD, USB 2.0 ports, a wifi, bluetooth, webcam and a card reader are included in this Black netbook loaded with Windows 7 Starter.

The Samsung NC 215 uses Fast Start technology, which lets netbooks to resume from standby faster – in less than 3 seconds. And with Samsung’s Sleep and Charge USB technology, the machine can provide power to smart phones, MP3s and other devices when off or in sleep mode.

The netbook features a narrow bezel of 17.5mm without compromising on screen size, so it’s easy to take with you when you’re out and about. The chassis of Samsung NC 215 is coated with Samsung’s Duracase technology to provide a scratch-resistant layer. The netbook weighs just 1.32kg, which maximizes its portability.

The Samsung Sense NC 215 also received TCO certification and Energy Star awards. The TCO Certified Edge is a supplement award open for those products that already meet the TCO Certified criteria, which are world-renowned standards on the environment-friendliness of electric and electronic products. From among TCO Certified products, the most outstanding eco-friendly technology in an industry is chosen as an ‘edge technology’ and the TCO Certified Edge is awarded to a product that provides the technology.

The Samsung NC 215S will be available in South Korea from August 23^rd, 2011 with a starting price of 599,000 Won (approx. $554 USD).
