Apple is planning to launch a 7.85-inch iPad next year.  

Apple is planning to launch a 7.85-inch iPad in late 2012, in addition to its new next-generation iPad, which the company prepares to release around March, next year. 

Global tablet shipments are expected to reach 60 million units this year, of which 70% will be Apple’s iPads. And so as to step in front of the competition, Apple might launch iPads with 7.85-inch displays, with the help of LG Display and AU Optronics (AUO). The 7.85-inch iPad models are likely to be seen in Q3 of 2012.

Apple likes to raise the stakes and be different in every aspect, like the latest rumors about the company planning to release a MacBook Pro with an ultra-high resolution display.
