Toshiba REGZA AT700 just got lighter with 23g after CES 2012

Toshiba REGZA AT700 just got lighter with 23g, after CES 2012 ended.

Toshiba REGZA AT700 (above) just got lighter with 23 grams, after the company introduced its new Excite X10 tablet at CES 2012, in Las Vegas.

A week ago, when Toshiba showed its new Excite X10 tablet at CES (for the US market), we thought that the company is exhibiting some radically hardware-upgraded model of its AT200 (which was introduced for the European market) or REGZA AT700 tablet (the Japanese version). At that time the Toshiba AT200 (in September, 2011) and the REGZA AT700 (in October, 2011) were weighing exactly 558g (below - screenshot of REGZA AT700, October, 2011).

And just when CES 2012 ended (and most specs of all three tablets still looked similar), Toshiba Japan (dynabook) updated the specs of REGZA AT700 (screenshot below). Now, the tablet weighs 535g – exactly as the Excite X10 – the US model (official video 1 and official video 2 ).

What Toshiba did to reduce the tablet’s weight, and did the tablet get an IPS display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, we could just guess. The fact is that from January 14th, 2012, the company’s REGZA AT700 tablet got lighter with 23 grams (updated PDF from January 13th).

And let’s not forget that Corning recently announced its Gorilla Glass 2, which is 0.8mm thick – 20% thinner and stronger than the Gorilla Glass (making devices lighter).
