Dell Studio Hybrid 140g with a power up problem

Dell Studio Hybrid 140g with a power up problem.

Usually, at Laptoport we do not write about Desktop PC, but due to the ultra-compact size and the interesting problem, we will show you a Dell Studio Hybrid 140g mini-desktop, which does not power-up.

This Dell Studio Hybrid 140g comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo T5850 2.16 GHz processor, 3 GB of 800MHz DDR2 and a 250 GB SATA hard drive running on Windows 7.

When the computer is switched on its power light flashes for a second and then it does not power up. It took us a bit of time to establish the problem (by disconnecting the rear USB ports – picture above), which came to be a broken and damaged rear USB port.

The user inserted a USB cable/ device in one of the rear USB ports, braking it and damaging the pins, which were bent and were shorting out the motherboard causing it to hang up when powered on.

This USB port can no longer be used, and because the user decided not to order a replacement part (but to use a USB hub) we resolved this issue by carefully straightening the pins, separating them, so as not to touch and make contact, and covering that specific USB port.  And here it goes – the PC powers on again and boots properly.

Bellow in the gallery you can find all the images (also at our Flickr page) – for reference and part numbers. A video is coming up soon showing the issue – later today or tomorrow.
