Lenovo 3000 N500 overheating

A few days ago, in Laptoport workshop came a Lenovo 3000 N500 with overheating problem. Laptop was restarting now and then. Downgraded to XP professional, but still was heavy for the blocked radiator ribs.  There was much dirt and dust inside. The fan working in slow motion was making a strange roaring noise. User experienced some blue screens and restarts. So he downgraded it, hoping to gain performance and to lower fan’s noise. The machine was working a bit better and restarts were in bigger intervals. Service was needed. A good clean-up, new installation and the PC was happy to load Vista.

Many users underestimate the role of cooling. After years of use, dust builds-up around the fan and heat sink, preventing of proper cooling. The hot air starts to circulate inside, instead of exiting through the radiator. That can lead to thermal damage of components such as CPU/GPU/HDD.
