Acer and Asus’s initial ultrabook sales are not as expected. 

 

 

 

 

Shipments of Ultrabooks made by Acer and Asus are expected to reach 100,000 units each by the end of this year, which is one third less than their targets (because of the quite high prices). 

The price of Asus’s Zenbook UX21 and UX31 ultrabook (in Taiwan), range from $36,000 TWD ($1,205 USD) to $50,000 TWD ($1,670 USD), but the $1,000 USD models sold in the US are not available. Such a price strategy does not meet the consumers’ expectations.

Market demand for Ultrabooks and Tablets will likely increase without both segments to interfere with each other. 

Ultrabooks are a market segment parallel to that of tablet PCs and without any competitive conflicts before the launch of Windows 8, according to Asus’s CEO Jerry Shen. Commenting on market watchers’ concerns that the appearance of ultrabooks may impact demand for tablet PCs, Shen is confident about Asus’s tablets and ultrabooks and believes that the two product lines will not interfere with each other’s market demand.
