How to Choose The Best Laptops For Sims 4 Game | Unrivaled Guide 2021

THE COMPONENTS

A computer, whether desktop or laptop, has four fundamental components: Processor, RAM, graphics card, and hard drive. And in the case of laptops, their size is also relevant, which will determine the size of the screen. A perfect combination of these components guarantees an optimal experience and a computer with a long useful life.

It is worth mentioning that all the named components are for laptops under $1000 . If you want to spend more of that money, I strongly recommend that you contact me in the comments or by mail so that I can recommend other more specialized computers.

PROCESSOR

The brain of the computer processes the orders and commands them to the rest of the computer. A good processor is the first step to a functional computer. A bad choice will cause actions not to be processed quickly enough and the computer will slow down.

Regarding Intel processors, we look for at least an Intel Core i3, recommending an Intel Core i5 and being the optimal Intel Core i7. Some i3s will be more than enough so let's not go crazy looking for an i5 as other components can be prioritized as well. In the case of AMD, its fourth generation of laptops has recently been launched and they have an excellent performance/quality/price, so they will be a very good option.

Regarding the issue of 64 or 32 bits, we do not have to worry since computers with 32-bit processors that are not tablets or convertibles are no longer marketed. All the ones I will recommend will be 64-bit.

RAM

RAM is what dictates the number of processes that we can execute at the same time, a running program occupies a certain number of MB (Megabytes) in RAM, so if we occupy all the amount we have (let's say 4GB), the computer will start to slow down as it will not have space to host more processes. In this way, it does not matter if we have a very powerful processor if the RAM is not going to let it operate correctly and at its maximum potential.

We are looking for a minimum of 6 GB, being 8 GB recommended, which will be more than enough for our computer to last for years without slowing down. It is important to know that as the years go by the programs are more powerful and occupy more RAM, that is why old computers with 2 or 4GB are already suffering today. However, I will recommend computers that have 4GB at the lowest prices, as they can be improved in the future easily.

In The Sims, there are many procedures running at the same time, especially when we have several Sims in the family. In The Sims 3, they all ran at the same time throughout the neighborhood and that had a huge impact on performance, but that is no longer the case in The Sims 4 where the new neighborhood system helps greatly to optimize the use of RAM.

Just because a computer has 4 GB of RAM does not mean that it is going to be slow or outdated, but it does mean that it is better to have 6-8 GB already for the future.

GRAPHICS CARD

The most important thing when playing games is the eyes of the games, in other words, the graphics card. Without a powerful one, the game will not be able to run correctly and will suffer slowdowns, so we want it to be able to move the game smoothly at any quality but always above 30 frames per second (FPS).

If we want to play something other than The Sims, be it Overwatch, Fortnite, or other types of games, we are interested in a dedicated graphics card from AMD or Nvidia. We are also interested in whether we want to do something more advanced than image/video editing or if we want the computer to withstand the passage of time well.

In desktop computers, we are interested in AMD's Radeon RX series models: RX 570, RX 580. There are also the RX 590 and RX 5700XT models of a much higher range and that are oriented to other types of games.

In the case of Nvidia, we want a GeForce GTX 1050, GTX 1050-ti, GTX 1650, or GTX1650 SUPER with the latter being the ideal option. Anything that is higher is more than eligible and is recommended for more demanding games like Assassin's Creed or Cyberpunk 2077.

In the case of laptops, we will focus almost exclusively on Nvidia with the GeForce MX350, GTX 1050, GTX 1050-ti, GTX 1650, or GTX1650 SUPER. The new processors from AMD have very good integrated graphics that will come in handy if we want to play on a low budget, but right now it is a bit difficult to get them due to their limited availability. Fortunately, we are at a point where desktop and laptop graphics cards are the same, narrowing the performance gap between platforms and simplifying the market.

HDD

It is the computer's storage medium, where we will install The Sims and its expansions as well as all kinds of programs and personal files. There are two types: mechanical hard disk (HDD) and solid-state hard disk (SSD).

HDDs are the hard drives of a lifetime with a high capacity of 500 GB / 750 GB / 1 TB / 2TB and today you will find them mostly accompanied by an SSD. The idea is to use these hard drives to store games and large files like photos and movies. The Sims 3 with all its expansions took about 50-60GB, The Sims 4 probably won't fall short, taking up 39.2GB with all the expansions as of June 2021, but in any case, you won't have a problem with that.

The Solid State Drives (SSD)  are 10 times faster than conventional hard drives. These SSDs cost a bit more than regular HDDs but are worth the price without hesitation. In laptops, you will find 128/256 / 512GB  attached or not to a normal hard drive. The grace that these hard drives have is that by installing Windows on them and the files and games on the conventional hard drive, you ensure that the computer turns on in 10 seconds and goes at a blazing speed, you will never see a slowdown in life again with an SSD. Today they are found in computers starting at € 400/500

OPERATING SYSTEM

Currently, all laptops will come equipped with Windows 10. The fully valid operating system for The Sims 4 and more than recommended as it will serve us for life. Desktop computers, as you will see below, do not have an operating system included and you will have to include it separately. (Instructions in the corresponding section)

SIZE (PORTABLE)

When I say the size I mean that of the screen, the normal thing is to buy a computer from 14 "to 17.5 " but this is always to the consumer's taste. Small 12-13 "computers will not have as much power as larger ones but will be lighter and thinner.

KEYBOARD AND MOUSE

Although they seem like two simple and unimportant additions, a good mouse and keyboard help improve not only our activity with The Sims but also our productivity in general with the computer.

The most common type of keyboard in notebooks recently is the chiclet type. Small and lightweight keys that allow making notebooks smaller and lighter. In desktop computers, it is quite common to buy mouse and keyboard packs that have a very good price and performance. When buying these two peripherals, Logitech should be your first option with which you are not going to fail. Another important point is to use a mat, either a cheap one (the typical one that the bank gives you) or a good brand. A mouse pad will provide us with a correct sliding of the mouse and above all, it will ensure the correct functioning of the peripheral.

DVD READER?

Whether or not the computer has a DVD player is NOT an impediment to installing the game. You can buy the boxed game, enter the installation code in Origin, and download it. The game will be assigned to your account and you can download it wherever and whenever you want on up to 5 computers at the same time. Most of the computers that I will recommend do not have a reader, but you will have it well indicated in the file of each product.
