Which screen for a laptop PC?

What battery for a laptop?

How much RAM is on a laptop PC?

Basic uses (Internet, office automation) are satisfied with 4 to 8 GB of RAM. More demanding software (video editing, CAD, 3D games, etc.) and multitasking require more, from 16 to 32 GB.

This quantity is sometimes scalable if the memory is not soldered to the motherboard and/or if SODIMM slots are free. If you add a laptop memory module, check that its specifications (DDR3 / DDR4) match those of the motherboard and that such an operation does not void the warranty.

The keyboard

Typing comfort depends on the size of the laptop and the nature of the keyboard.

Membrane keyboards, flat, silent but not very responsive, are in the majority.

Mechanical keyboards, noisier but reputed to be more robust and responsive, are often preferred by gamers and in fact, equip dedicated laptops.

These assessments are, however, subjective. Other differentiating things are the backlight, palm rest surface, and the numeric keypad (rare below 15 inches). Unexpectedly, the latter vehicle and a lot of developments with Num Pad directly integrated into the trackpad, replacing the mouse, as at Asus for example.

In addition to this function, the trackpad can also be distinguished according to its position on the chassis but also according to its size. These are elements of comfort that are specific to each person but that should be evaluated according to their use.

Connectivity and communication

USB ports (2.0 and 3.0), HDMI output, mini Display Port, microphone input, headphone output, WiFi, Bluetooth, webcam ... There are more possibilities to connect peripherals (external keyboard, screen, hard drive ... ) and communicate, the better.

The most voluminous laptops are logically the most richly endowed. Thunderbolt 3.0 has made its appearance on the top of the range: its 40 Gbits / s speed and its versatility are very appreciable and it can allow you to transform an office laptop PC into a gamer with external graphics card connected by this connection.

The circuit or graphics card

It has little importance in an office environment, it has a lot for video games or CAD. At the entry level, it is integrated into the processor and is suitable for small multimedia and entertainment applications.
