MSI VR630X (MS-1672) notebook fan and heat sink cleanup

Recently, an MSI VR630X (MS-1672) notebook, was brought to us, at Laptoport, for an internal cooling-components cleanup, and Windows 7 installation.

The notebook heatsink got a bit dirty, after operating for a long time without being serviced.

The MSI VR630X (MS-1672) is equipped with a 2.0GHz AMD Sempron (SI-40) processor (socket S1/ G2 – 638pin), 1GB of DDR2 (800MHz) memory and 160GB HDD (5400rpm). It also has a 15.6-inch WXGA (1366×768) display, powered by Nvidia GeForce 9100M G graphics.

The user had purchased Windows 7 Home Premium and an additional 1GB RAM, which he requested to be installed. But first, we were going to check the overheating issue.

This MSI VR630X notebook model is from the easy-to-open ones (so as to reach the CPU), you just remove a few screws and the back plastic cover comes off.

After operating for 4 years, dust built-up on the CPU fan and heat sink has made the notebook to overheat. Bellow in the gallery (or at our Flickr page), you can find all internal photos of the cleaning process.

Thank you ! This post really helped me. I recently was asked to reinstall the OS on this model but i didn’t get the drivers. So, identifying the parts is a huge part in the process of getting things to work.
