ACER Aspire 5520 problematic chipset (part 2)

ACER Aspire 5520G-6A2G16Mi was brought in Laptoport workshop for a third time. This 15.4-inch laptop is a non-stop working machine, which is situated on a desk and is never switched off. Its owner is using it mainly for gaming purposes, playing all kind of high graphic demanding games.

A few days ago the notebook stopped functioning, due to overheating problems with the chipset (typical for this model). When switched on it is trying to start, but all you can see is blinking On/Off button, wireless and some other indicators and nothing displays on the screen.

Here are some internal photos of the chipset fixing process (full disassembling), taken a few days ago.

The laptop was fixed and downgraded to XP Pro, so as the chipset not to be under too much stress.

ACER Aspire 5520 problematic chipset (part 1)

ACER Aspire 5520G-6A2G16Mi was brought in Laptoport workshop in the beginning of April this year. Then the machine was still working. This was its second service and a check-up with us, since October last year. The laptop was opened and cleaned. The fan and heatsink had some dirt, but they were not blocked badly. Tests were performed and all components came to be functioning fine. It has an AMD Athlon64 X2 CPU, nVidia 8400M GS and runs Windows Vista Home Premium with 2GB of 667MHz RAM.

Above are some internal photos of the fan and heatsink clean-up, taken in the beginning of April 2011.
